Hampshire Chess Individual Championship 1935
This season the entries were divided into three sections of 5 players. The top two in each section meeting in a final section.
In 1935 there were three preliminary sections of five players where the top two players progressed to the final where an all play all was undertaken.
In section I reigning champion failed to qualify to the final finishing third behind F.L.Taylor and S.L.Russell who both scored three points from their five games.
In section II the first showing of prominent Hampshire Chess player in the championship Wilf Pratten was seen. He scored 3 and a half points ahead of K.D.Lloyd on 3 qualifying to the final.
In section III H.Grover scored 3 and a half points and 1934 runner up W.F.Fry 3 points to qualify,
In the final S.L.Russell won all his games to win the championship. His win against H.Grover was key, as he scored 4 points winning all his games apart from his loss to S.L.Russell. Wilf Pratten had to withdraw from the competition with three of his games being forfeited.
