The very first Hampshire Chess Championship was held in 1930 with eight competitors playing in a knockout format.

The 2nd Hampshire Individual Championship was held in 1931.
Clubs again played preliminary tournaments and the winners were paired as below:-

Again a change from the previous year where three preliminary sections of five players were played and the top two moved to the final where an all play all was completed.

Another tweak to the competition saw two sections of six players with the top two players moving to the final. At this stage I presume an all play all was completed.

This season the entries were divided into three sections of 5 players. The top two in each section meeting in a final section.

The same structure as 1935 with three preliminary sections of five players and the top two in each section meeting in the final.
F.J.H.Elwell won his fourth title just ahead of Wilf Pratten.

It seems the structure has been fixed, as it was the same as previous two years with the three sections with the top two players progressing to the final.
F.J.H.Elwell was again successful winning his fifth and final championship.

Three preliminary sections with the top two players progressing to the final was the format again. W.A.Hooper won his first and only title ahead of F.J.H.Elwell. Only a finishing place from the final is available.
